Union College to host STEP Regional Science Bowl

The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) Regional Science Bowl will take place Saturday, Feb. 11 at Union College.

STEP is a science bowl that features 80 high school students from all over New York competing in a ?Jeopardy? style contest. The winning team will advance to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. in April. That bowl is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

According to a statement, STEP encourages historically underrepresented students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Representatives from Union College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University at Albany, Fulton Montgomery Community College, University of Buffalo and Rochester Institute of Technology will serve as mentors to each squad.

The competition will be in College Park Hall and the opening round will begin at 9:15 a.m. The final round is scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m. with awards at 4:15 p.m. This is the third year Union has hosted the event which has been around for 25 years.
